Mom’s birthday present this year was a slouchy purple hat using an Irish Mesh Stitch.
The bands of Irish Mesh Stitch were fairly easy and gave a fun and elegant texture. It is made with the following pattern: *yo, slip 1 stitch, knit 2 stitches and then pull the slipped over both of them* repeated until the end of the row and then followed by a plain knit row. I repeated this three times for each mesh band. The yarn over creates the hole, and pulling the slipped stitch over two knitted stitches creates the nice wrapping effect. I discovered this stitch from this blog, which leads to this ravelry pattern. Enjoy.
The slouch comes from making the hat overly long, and decreasing gradually.
